Great, thanks for the info mate.....

Hopefully last question, well for now anyway!!

Is it possible to use the MK2 8v (or 16v) clocks and is there any problems with getting the MFA etc working on the ABF?? Also, if i decide to go for the MK3 Gearbox, what about the speedo cable??

It is possible to use the MK2 clocks, but it is easier to use the MK3 ones. As far as I'm aware, you only have to use the clock loom appropriate to the clocks, ie mk3 MFA loom with MK3 clocks

The 8v ones wont be the best ones, too few revs shown on the clock, and not enough in the way of mph. And the speedo cable will work in a cable box if you decide that is the way you want to go with the clocks

Right so if i stick with MK2 16v clocks and loom then the MFA etc should still work?

    Another q,

Is the 8v fuel pump ok to run an ABF or is a MK2/3 16v item needed??

    Thanks :)

The MK2 16v item is only needed if changine to K-jet, so you dont need that. The MK3 16v is the same as the mk2 8v as they both run digifant management so need the same pressure from the pump - in other words, the one you have in there is fine

Thats not quite true - mine ran on the 8v rad and was running at the right temperatures.
The abf rad is more ideal, but the twin fan unit to fit it when in a MK2 isnt that easy to come by

In an ideal world it would be better to use the ABF rad, but it isnt necessary - like I said above, I used the 8v one and it is more than up to the job of road work. It is only when taking it on track that I would advise a larger rad, but even that isnt necessary in every case.

In fact, the best car to pinch a rad and fan from is a passat GT. The rad is the largest that will fit in a MK2, it has twin fans, and the outlets are on the correct side

Oh, and answer my pm :)

    Chris, pm answered ;)

I think i'll stick with the 8v rad for the time being, that way i can get the car running back on the road and i'll keep my eyes peeled for a Passat GT or a MK3 TDI in the breakers and get the rad/fans if and when i see some.....

    Cheers peeps :)

just wondering - are the mk3 clocks physically a direct swap for mk2 items or do you need to butcher/bodge the mk2 dash in order for them to go in?

if the mk2 clocks were retained along with the 8v gearbag - will any functionality be lost following a switch to abf?
