where does that bolt on the suppenstopn strut ?

It doesn't bolt to the damper as such - it's had fabrication to that part of the beam to allow it to attach via the metal work.

 

Will you be using this type Chris?

 

I've half built the rods & rose joint inserts, as of a year ago - no progress since.

Ive loved this car for years, glad to see so much work going into to keeping the legend alive and better than ever. Is car having a trick front wishbone set up fitted?.

I don't know where they're based TBH - somewhere in Sussex/Surrey or South London.

Quality looked ok - and certainly for the cost, no argument. Some welds were not as neat as the old one. Mine will still (& always was) going to Custom Cages.

Front susp is with 'normal' pressed w/bones but has a windened track, with Mk2 ball joints and extended metal on wishbones. Requires one d/shaft sourced from VW range (don't know which one), plus a bespoke shaft (nearside I think, since M was cursing that the prang would have bent it).

Great updates chris. that's very interesting what's been done with the rear beam... has the mk2 got something similar?

 

Not yet, though it's been a plan for several years. Trouble is the tank is behind the axle on a Mk2, which is in the way - the bars would hit it. So it would need a different tank. Bag tanks have been shied away from since the hardware alone is silly . There is a possibily that part of the old Mk1 floor will be grafted into the Mk2, with a Mk1 tank installed, but it's only a thought at the moment.

I can only imagine the commitment this is taking.

 

The guys that are doing it have known the car for a few years, and realised more and more after reading the forum threads that the car was 'a legend'.

They're into club racing, & have got their own paint booth, so most of it can be done at one place. It's being done in quiet periods where possible - they're just enjoying being involved with something as interesting.
