    I have a mk2 golf with a 2e block and 2 litre 8v head.

It has the following engine mods :

    Ported and polished head
    Skimmed head for higher compression
High lift cams (not sure what)
    Lightened and balanced flywheel
    Baffled sump
    Blitzchip
    Quickshift

Im not sure what sort of power this should make but i would have thought maybe 10-20bhp over stock?

    My question is this...

Do all 8v's wheel spin wildly out of control even in dry conditions?

On a dry, tarmac road and i put my foot down in 2nd, as soon as i hit roughly 3000rpm the wheels just spin!![:s]

Is it possible that my car is still fitted with the 1.8 gearbox?

The car has 7x15 wheels fitted with new goodyear eagle F1 tyres all round! It is lowered 40mm on spax shocks and springs.

Well my VR6 has nearly 220bhp and it doesn't do it, so you might have more power than you thought.....

well that set up he has listed never has over 220bhp though?? How would a clutch effect things once you are moving, in gear and at 3k rpm?? [:s]

Why would the clutch slipping cause his wheels to spin? opposite effect i would have thought.

My 16v MK2 is stock, so between 140-150hp depending on who you have an argument with! lol but that wouldn't break traction unless very wet, or you forced it to.

I take it your changing from first to second normally and then just accelerating hard from there? (i.e not revving it to 3k and then popping the clutch or anything?)

Doesn't make a lot of sense TBH....

If you've got good tires, suspension that can handle the mods etc... the only thing i can think of is camber, if the cars camber was really out, not all of the tire would make contact with the road.... but then that prob isn't the case as it'd be a pig to drive and you'd prob die at the first corner  ;)

Theres no way that would lose traction as described but the slipping clutch would sound like it had.

with a max of 140bhp and with all those 8v torques, your car shouldn't spin the front wheels on a dry day in any gear more than 2nd, is there somethng wrong with the setup of the car?

Believe it or not I often see cars where the owners claim there losing grip when its the clutch. If 200hp G60s dont lose traction like this why would a 140/150hp car do so

very likely yo have the 1.8 box , but thaat's not a concern .
But think about it ,,, ,this only happens when it hits about 3000? So the car is driving until it hits that , then spinning the wheels from about 30mph whilst moving? Hardly likely... practically impossible in a sub 160 bhp car surely . I would say it sounds more like clutch slip as the car comes "on cam" .

My reply was a bit tongue in cheek.

I can definitely conform it is not the clutch slipping!

In fact, thats another thing, the guy i bought it off said it was a paddle clutch. But im not entirely sure what is meant by that...?

Its not particularly powerfull, but just loses traction way too easily!

Even my old nova redtop on carbs was knowhere near as bad as this thing!

Well think about it yourself mate.. the clutch isn't slipping , you say , yet it has less power , and more weight than your Nova , that didn't suffer the same? Summat a bit odd then. I do accept that God used the torque of an 8v to create the seasons.........

You sure your tyres are ok?

Well the gear ratios on the golf are extremely short and i mean short!

    70mph in 5th is about 4200rpm...

The nova on the other hand would do 70mph in second as the ratios were quite drawn out, being the f20 gearbox.

The front tyres are both 2 months old. Both being goodyear eagle F1's, which are far from budget tyres.

My 2.0 M/S 8v can spin the wheels in first and second dry or wet...
Depends on what rpm and throttle it is launched at.
