Glad you found this thread informative

    Rob,

    1) The ABF crank sensor can just remain in place no need to plug into anything as it would be redundant i.e if you are retrofitting the original KR dizzy and K-jet system

    2) Remove the M10x1 oil sealing plug at the side of the head on the ABF, above # 4 exhaust runner and place the oil temp sender from the KR engine here.

You can either leave the original ABF oil temp sender in place next to the oil switches, as redundant or transfer the M10x1 blank to this area.

Thanks for the very quick response, 100% legend!

I've replaced all the other sensor plugs as you described on the 1st page, just wondered what happened with the 3rd one.

OK, I'll get me a crank sensor and use it as a plug then!!

Thanks for all the help, I should be up and running in the week!!

    Rob.

ABF downpipe to KR exhaust sytem

After a few blind alleys looking for a quiet, simple, close to standard set up, I've ended up with the original ABF 4 into 2 into 1 downpipe with the flange cut off- joined to the standard three piece 16v pipe work by a simpleish pipe.-
The piece of pipe to do this measures:
550mm long, outside diameter at the front is 59.5mm, outside diameter at the rear is 55mm.
Clamps needed for both ends of course but this means standard replacements will fit when the mild steel pipes rot or the downpipe flexis give up, in future.
The gentlemen at PipeWerx in Lancashire knocked this out for me in stainless for 25.

If you ask nicely they might do the same for you.

    Hope this helps someone.

    To summise........

To fit an ABF to a GTI Mk2 its all nuts and bolts stuff with a mixture of KR and ABF parts being used.

If you were to fit the ABF with its own GBox, its still a nuts and bolts swap. Except the Hydro clutch mod and cable shift tower needs to be fitted.

Are the original KR drive shafts suitable for the ABF Gbox?

What if the car is a non-GTi Model? is the swap still the same?

    Many thanks

    Ben

mk2 100mm shafts are required for 02a fitment, so mk2 gti and later 1.8 carby. if you go 020 you match the shafts to the box as they come in 90mm and 100mm flange sizes

Do I recall correctly that the 020 is the standard ABF Gbox?

Meaning the 02a is the KR one?

Fuel pump is priming, im getting 12v at the immobiliser
    12v at the coil
when igntion is turned i get a spark from the coil 'sometimes'
    But nothing when cranking.
Im getting no fuel in the cylinders either.
    Anyone have any ideas

I'm sure I've read it here somewhere but I have to ask, what clutch and fly wheel do I need to use if using my current 8valve gearbox(O2O I believe[:$]) and ABF engine?

Sure this has been answered already, but frankly I'm a bit thick. I've read this thread several times!!

    I've got a 88 MK2 8v... is this Digi 2??

If so it means i can follow the guide... http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1326786&postcount=25

If so... where the chuff is the immobiliser junction box!? Assume it's off the Mk3 doner?? Can't find it anywhere!!

Last one... which coil do you use!?

    Thanks!

it'll be digi 2 managment, but thats not what is important its the electrics/fusebox you need to worry about. pre-90 is CE1 and post-90 is CE2. CE1 = cut n splice for abf loom, CE2 = plug in with some tweaks.

immobiliser junction box is on the mk3 golf, if its pre-96 it may not have one. mk2 coil is ideal is the mk3 one is unreliable, plus if you use mk2 coil rev counter works as per std. if you use mk3 you have to open it and add revo wire inside

Sorry, it's been covered everywhere, but i just can't piece it together...

I've got the ABF loom down to this (which I'm sure is right!?)

Then I've got this for the immo... What do i wire it into!?

ABF loom is easy... confused as hell by the CE1... what bits do i actually need to keep!?!?

    Help!?

    1. looks fine except for you're missing the diagnostics grey/white from that bunch which...

    2. ...is needed to plug into the brown double clip plug here. black wire is ignition live, brown ring is earth. on the vag-com you are missing the double plug on the grey and yellow wire, that would plug into the diagnostics jumper block. but never mind just cut yellow out its unused and splice the grey direct to the single clip grey wire currently plugged into the diagnostics jumper block. or go cut out another diagnostics port loom but keep the 2 pin plug! the red/wht and brown are live and earth, factory they go to the ciggy lighter.

red/white should be on the vag-com port, if not then it must have been pulled out the plug. either way id be down the scrappy and get one out without any cutting on the grey and yel wires makes your life easier
