I second this! Had a nightmare earlier in the year trying to source a decent OEM replacement exhaust for my girlfriends Mk2 8 valve gti. The standard twin pipe back boxes are now obsolete at the main dealer.

In the end I purchased an Ernst back box from BBT. Although great quality, the tailpipes are matt black,so don't look original. A full stainless OEM style system would be brilliant!!!

    Cheers Alpenweiss2:)

Theres a few things which I would love to buy for my mk2

Headling repair kit/new headlining kit (hugely common problem -will be in great demand!)
Pop out rear windows, surely a kit could be made up, you would make a fortune!
The brackets that hold the little sunroof spoiler up when you open it - mine are rotton
The trim as mentioned for the boot pannel and the wiper scuttle
    Standard look s/s exhaust system

The items that fail/fall apart/need replacing on older vw's are always going to be in great demand, as are items that are hard to find.

Oh two more bits.. early Mk2 handbrake cable guides, its a fairly simple but of bent tube, but the end under the body does rust a bit.. and its NLA I did fix mine by knocking about a Mk3 one, but it's not pretty! The other part may take some doing, the trim/seal round the top and side of the door windows, which tends to perish and crack round the corners with age.

...and another for a decent OEM backbox copy in stainless

Also decent quailty, well fitting OEM copy mudflaps for Mk2 drivers / Gtis with plastic arch spats would be splendid :)

So, these stainless exhausts... for Mk2 Gti 8v? Twin exit, like original? - standard bore, or do you want them slightly bigger - and not too noisy at a guess... We're really keen to do these.. so it should happen... speak now and you can help design them! Cheers

Cant speak for everyone but I'd be happy with an exact copy (internally and externally) of an OEM twin exit exhaust in Stainless - cut your design time and just chop up and copy an old knackered backbox ;)

Standard bore would be good to ensure it mates to the rest of an OEM system. Only problem I can see is with the "tinny" noise stainless can emit, so it might be an idea to build it out of slightly thicker gauge material than the original box.

I think both 16v and 8v varients would sell..

For me an 8V version and an exact copy in every way, no need to fiddle with an already good design, including the low rumble on idle.

yep need to be an exact copy in all ways , same bore , silencer styles , tail pipes and not chavvy loud , could always offer a plain bypass section instead of the midbox for the chavvy types

Thanks for the good work guys ;)
So what would you be prepared to pay for a stainless OE back box? Bear in mind an Ernst stock item retails at 81.69 inc vat. Then we can work out if this is viable. Fingers crossed!

    Cheers

Do you think the thin 90 spec GTI side strips will ever be reproduced in the near future...

I know its been mentioned before but im certain these will sell fast.

Shouldn't be too hard or expensive to make.

I think you would do well out of an OE quality full set of Mk1 GTi plastic arch trims. Always in demand and hard to come by in mint condition.

Stainless filler necks for sure also, I'd have one straight away.

And MFA wiper stalks for the mk1 are now obsolete and quite sought after when the headlight switch fails. I was lucky enough to source a good used one.
