    It was not my car![:x]

I was forced to drive it from North Debys to Wolverhampton. Cos. It had failed to make it up Winnat's Pass, Castleton, Derbys.

Without doubt, the best enthusiast's car ever built.

1970 Porsche 911 Basic. That was actually the name Porsche gave to it.

Alloy panels all over, stripped out, Recaro lightweight seats, even the rubber bonnet catches were standard!

They even made it in RHD. But, the fuel tank had to be reduced from 29 gallons to 24 gallons.

CRIKEY! There's even an Autobianchi 1100 in the background of the second picture, for Danny!

My Dad used to have one in Yellow. The V8 engine sounded lovely.

He sooo regrets having to sell it...

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the Mk1 Escort. Or Mk2 Escort.

To the OP: obvious!! The Mk1 Golf GTI.

And the odd non-undersealed shell, straight off the line, would be lovely too

Only one mention of Saab duly noted!

Agree, the RS2000, I was tempted to put it down.

In those days, these cars were properly special

My mum used to deliver cars for Ford, I lost count of how many RS2000s I must have sat in as a lad.

Just remember that a Maxi 1750 HLS had the same power as an RS2000 though. :o

Put the Maxi down and walk away! They were categorically rubbish! Even if they were ok dynamically, they were sheeitte to look at!

I reckon the aero package on a Maxi might just trump your beloved Golf mk1.

With it's sleek lines and the ability to slam it instantly by cutting one of the suspension fluid pipes, it would be well scene.

I just remember that the seats could be laid down flat in order to sleep in it.

Doggers would buy them in droves now.

I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I actually had one of those in exactly the same colour[:$]

    Very interesting handling iirc

    I also co-drove a Mk2 RS2000 from Lands End to Jon O Groats.

Amazing fun on the twisty bits but slightly lacking in refinement for a motorway cruiser

I`ve never had the pleasure of driving one, but a neighbour of a mate of mine when we were kids had two; a red standard daily, and a black one for weekends.

No idea what he`d done with it, but it was lower, noisier, quicker, had harnesses (the first road car I`d seen with them), and a propensity for going sideways at a sniff.

Used to love watching him pootle it out of the drive onto the road, stop, then give it a full rally launch, and leave big dirty stripes up the road.

He took us out round some back lanes once, and thoroughly scared the sh*t out of us, but I instantly fell in love with that car there and then. I did prefer them in red though...
