not so much a wee, more aiming to spread the huge popularity of the mk 1 and 2 GTi to a wider, more mature, family-type clientele. [:^(] It failed! [8(]

VW quote 10.9 secs for 0-60 on an 8v, probably a bit quicker than that.

Welcome to the World of ClubGTI... haven't you noticed ALL threads are many pages long?
I post answering the original query and the rest debating the pros and cons of all manner of other things, usually unrelated to the original topic

wouldnt the forum be a boring place if all you got was:

Question: what size wheels go on a mk2 gti

    Answer: 14"

You need the discssion to provoke some thought and opinions from the fellow members, which is where you can open your mind to other ideas which you would have never thought of. Its actually a good way to battle the ignorance some people have about the other mk's of golf, or other wrong preconceptions. And it makes this place fun! There is a line though, sometimes people go over it, but then its only text (sticks and stones etc....)...

I just read this on the other page:

I got the figure from the back of EVO magazine, it could well be wrong. But the curb weight of a mk3 8v in the original brochure says 1060kg i think.

....and the VR6 is too nose heavy.....

....and the 16v has to wound up for too long....

    ....and they all handle crap....

....and mk2s and mk1s are perfect, but crap on the mway....

I think we should all buy honda civics.

The car was right for the time. VW want to make money not the most sporting gti ever. Nobody would buy a new mk2 now (except me) or mk3............(somebody will probably tell me they make a modern version of the mk1 in SA however).

Ive had a modded mk2 8v and the standard one is far from perfect, they are just better as standard (gti wise) then the mk3......

    .........and civics are crap......

To answer the original thread, I thought VW developed the mk3 engine whereby the run out one was the quickest breaking 9 secs to 60 and similar in gear times to the mk2?
