superb is that how you 'dial in' cams on the vw valver then stuart? always wondered about that. neil. Edited by: riley
Well actually, my cams came without gears, so we had to press and weld on the VW ones I'm intending to build up another ITB'd engine at this stage, but won't have that all sorted for a while - I'll get the car up and running first. I need to finish painting the wheel arches so I can bolt on the suspension and lose the grotty, old top mounts Off to paint the car now
Awsome been waiting around for you to update! So what exactly is different about the cluitch your using? is it actually a paddle system you will be using? or is it just a name?
how did I miss this thread...truly amaizing...like everyone else...can't wait! Nice garage too Lucky get
Got around to doing the gearbox on the weekend. Spent ages cleaning it with degreaser, rags and a wire brush, then cleaned with auto painting preg wash just to get rid of all the contaminants. I want the finish to last as I'll be cleaning the car after every drive Anyway, I'm using an alloy wheel enamel to spray most of the parts, as it's a VERY hard finish to chip or scratch, has great coverage with only 2 coats and most importantly, IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE FAKE CHROME!! I'd orginally intended to chrome parts like the bell housing, but have spent that money on the engine instead. Anyway, here's the gearbox after many hours of work: Put in a new throw-out bearing too and quickly cleaned out all the worn clutch material from the inside. Also refilled with fresh Redline synthetic oil: I'm just waiting on the VAG 02A clutch alignment tool to turn up and then I can bolt the tranny back up to the engine and drop it in the car. The engine is all detailed apart from the oil filter housing, which I have to do next weekend. I've nearly finished designing the engine mounts too. The engine is going to sit exactly 16mm lower in the bay (and feck I'll have to be careful of the sump ) I took some pics pre wetsanding and buffing the paint (hence the orange peel) just to see what the wheels looked like against the colour - I think it looks hot, but welcome all opinions : OS rear (yes I pulled out the springs - haven't painted the rear arches yet so not gonna bolt the KWs on just yet ): NS rear: The once-f**ked arches came out PERFECTLY, so I'm stoked. I spent several whole days shaping them, though, so they'd want to be good After I've got the shine out of the paint, I can look more carefully, but at this stage, I think the car is DEAD straight Here's a quicky of the engine bay and totally smoothed scuttle (I'm not running wipers). I also welded all the tiny, factory holes up in the slam panel, along with the heater pipe holes in the bay: The next update will be pretty big as I'll have prepared the paint and hopefully got the engine mount brackets made up.
