    WOLF R Update 21/09/07

    Updated 21/09/07
Earlier this year I introduced my WOLF R concept to you. In this thread it was shown that you can have a 16vT and convert it to forced induction if you know what your were doing and what you want to achieve.
Since building the car I have done quite a few updates to it as I acquired more knowledge on the subject.

I want to take you through what I have done to the car since Jan 07.

Engine Crankshaft failure. 1 piece thrust washer failure @ 600miles
    [IMG]
1 piece bearing on mains replaced for VW OEM units ( both mains and rods)
Replaced crankshaft with one from AGG 8v.
Addition of 1Z TDI windage try.
Turbo sent off to be customised for more airflow.
    STD oil pump reused.

At 1500miles and on first high speed test a few months later
Turbo manifold studs failure due to high EGT.
    Turbo thrust bearing replaced
    Worn 270 thrust
    [IMG]
    New 270 thrust.
Lots of blow by from OEM VW rings so Total Seal piston rings installed with new 1 litre catch tank.
STD rod bearings were good order these were reused with the fasteners.
New twin gaskets sourced but reused all cylinder head fasteners.
New but smaller turbo manifold fabricated by N7NDO after outsourcing flanges and pipes.
    Turbo brace fabricated to block.
VW 16v exhaust system removed in favour if Jetex 2.5 inch system with middle box removed.
    Turbo elbow ported.
Boost set at up to 16psi after 600miles
    VEMS EGT/AFR gauge installed.
    New downpipe made by N7NDO
    [IMG]
Ported an knife edged ABF TB.
Car put in the road. Running on this hardware since. New 2 litre catch tank installed to hold excessive oil at high rpm due to blow by.
But engine stopped blowing oil at 1100miles.

Engine now stable and used to go to work.
Later electrical and calibration updates 6000miles since second rebuild.
CE 1 Fuse box configured to run Injector, ECU and coils to have separate 12v supply. Final update was coils T15 Injectors off N and ECU off R which is also the same as blk/yel wire to ISCV ecu.
Cold start calibration tweaked for better start and pull off stability.
MPGs improved by doing steady state calibrations for light loads under 65kpa by setting AFRs to around 15-16 and then increasing spark to MBT from 1000-4500rpm assisted by N7NDO/eatonmk2 as driver.
While driving it was noted that the oil and coolant temps never pass 102degs and 108 respectively. This is good considering that I am using a STD 16v radiator and VW oil cooler.

My impressions , summary and future work
I am still not pleased with the torque response of this conversion as I believe the new turbo manifold is restricting energy from the turbo which is on full spools at around 4100rpm to 7500rpm cut. Torque is up from previous combination but car has to be kept at this point in order to make very rapid progress. This is NOT the feel of the bench mark EVO 3 with TD05H-16G running 12-17psi. Plans are on the way to redesign log manifold with eatonmk2.
Nevertheless the car if stirred will get to 60mph in 5.2 sec and do a standing 1/4mile in 13.6secs @107mph. 7300rpm has been seen in 5th gear so its no slouch. But I know there is more to have from it.
One of the reasons I ma using a Log manifold is due to packaging and maximum desired torque set at around 280lbft but I would be happy with 270lbft maintained as long as the STD cams would allow.
The research that went into building the WOLF R was recently replicated in this car which runs parts capable of producing less air charge or torque but has the similar torque characteristics of the EVO 3 bench mark.
So my plan is to attempt and refining this package to achieve these aims of 280lbft then take it to the strip and see if it will come close to my desired ET of low 13s

So far the most of the objectives I had for this project have been met.
    i.e.
Wife friendly Yes used when the 3A 2.0 MS project with no reported complaints
Target MPGs of 33mpgs- Actual 31mpgs at light 70mph cruise over 140miles.
Target of 300bhp@6400rpm and 260lbft@5000rpm- Still in process of working out final load curves that suit me.
Demonstraion of skills to prospective employer- 100% fulfilled.

Keep watching this space for me highlights on The WOLF R.
    WOLF R today.

Optimised EVO 3 was the benchmark. Engine is mostly VW/EURO or fabricated parts. Electronic Boost Control is Japanese.
First car, the WOLF was a proper rust box so I went to the Monza to build The WOLF R.

Escort is now placed on top a 20 ft container as a landmark. 360bhp RB25DET Engine was sold. I loved that car.

Do you have any close up pics of the throttle cable mounting and the fuel rail mounting?

I have a similar manifold that i'm trying to fit to an ABF

So what does the WOLF R sound like?
And how this sound compare to say the very popular 1.8T.
Well Toyotec had the two cars facing off each other and decided to find out.
Both cars had the same Jetex exhaust.
    Watch the clip;
