i've rekindled my love of the 8v recently since getting the mk2 finished, but i do also love the 30v S4 engine (a lot!) - but i'm still building up the guts to take the engine out of that, its quite intimidating in comparison to the little 8v.

8v's are cool cos everyone has 16v's, VR6 or 20v's in their golfs (or is removing the 8v for a conversion) and that makes 8v stuff come up pretty cheap ;)

    Long live the 8vAS

Will your 30v V6 ever reach the 900bhp of the 20v Pikes Peak car?

8V or whatever they are called SUCK!
8v plus 4 more Ventils in a six pot are OK for sinking your front end into the assphalt and imtimated lil old granny off the the road in a Micra as you run up quickly with your engine on WOT.
20v? which one V5 or 1.8T - gay unless boosted beyond stock.
16v FTW, gives most fahrverngen from 1000rpm to 7200rpm. Even better with a hufferlader!

Own all by the way [:D].

16v is much like Vtec, gay unless you are revving the nuts off it to make any sort of power.

least the 8v is producing power and earth moving torque from the get go

    I have 12. Sounds nice.
I have also got 8 - doesn't sound as nice, but it's a good and strong, and very reliable.
I've also got 16 - it's still scattered about the house.

She's got 8, but it doesn't count as it's less than 1500cc and doesn't really rev past 5k, not that it needs to, with her driving.
She used to have 16, it was pants, really, it had a vauxhall badge on it, and bits fell off, or randomly stopped working.

All in all, I like valves. They're good.

Not my 16v ;), no VTEC style lag. Full on torque from the start.

Axminster shares must be up, with all the carpet that's being smoked in the preparation of this thread.

The reason 8v owners think they have more torque, is because they have even less further up the rev range.

16v FTW, speaking as the owner of 2x 8v and 2x12v cars [:$]

Well said mike, the only reason 8v feel more torquey is because they don't get the second punch when the 16v cam's kick in, just look at the power graph for both standard engines as proof [:D]

Edit; scuttles off to find said power graph's (I hope I'm right now)[:$]
