can you answer me a quick question,

do you eat "meat free" products? those linda mcartney type things, the ones that essentially look and taste like meat but are made out of soya.

now vegetable burgers/fingers i can understand, made out of vegetables and you can see that.

but meat free bacon and sausages i can not get my head around. to the point where i was offered a job with a company who made such products. Just upset the vegetarian at work with this arguement, why would you want to eat a "meat" product if you didn't like meat?? it is after all made to look and taste like meat but you don't harm the piggy/cow. I thought choosing not to eat meat you wouldn't eat a substitute product that replicates it. that just seems ironic to me.

I am a vegetarian. I don't eat meat because I do not wish to consume animal flesh to satisfy my hunger. It is my personal choice. Therefore I eat meat substitutes because they taste nice, not because they look like or replace meat. Some people might but not me. I know some vegetarians that will not eat meat substitutes because it is too realistic and they can't bring themselves to eat it.

where do you get your protein from?

it's very easy to be malnourished on a poorly planned vege lifestyle

thats what i don't understand about vegetarians who do, it seems pointless in eating a product which is essentially the product you are against....

Matt you can eat many many things that don't have to have meat in.
everything i cook at home i make a vegetarian alternative for my parents, simply by just not including meat.

Some vegetarians i know (i'm ex veggie myself) enjoy the texture and substantial nature of meat when being eaten. There are no vegetable substitutes for this as most are primarily water and don't have the fibrous texture.

Sometimes there isn't anything that'll quench a thirst other than an ice cold lager. Same with food sometimes, nothing will do other than biting into something substantial and meat satisfies that, hence stuff that looks/tastes like it but without the calories/animal death.

I used to go out with a lass who's sister was a veggie, used to preach about how eating meat etc was morally wrong, yet she used to eat quorn/soya chicken/beef etc which looked/smelt/tasted just like real meat [:s] Used to confuse me no end.

If the Good Lord didn't want mankind to eat animals, He wouldn't have made them out of meat

is that all you eat then?[:s]

people seem to struggle to "think" of meal alternative if you ask them to take meat out.

vegetable curry, vegetable risotto, you can do many pasta dishes,
    stir fry's etc
