It seems some people on here think me saying 'I would rather buy something else for 20k+' is a personal attack on their very own moral fibre and equal to raping their dog or something!

Let me spell it out to you.

<ul>[*]I really like the R32[*]It sounds brilliant[*]It looks stunning[*]It's what a MK4 GTI should have always been[*]It's ana amazing piece of VW engineering and shows they can still knock out some special hatches[*]Interior looks stunning[*]I would love to own one[/list]

    See -- i like them...

    BUT

If i was going to spend 20k+ on a car i would not be looking at an R32.. i would not buy one even if i could afford it!

If having that opinion makes me an immature, jealous tosser then you really are a sad, anal, paranoid, overprotective, snobbish twat!

    Thanks!

At the end of the day, its horses for courses, which Golfgirl has already mentioned with her extensive post.:)
I stated that if I were chucking 20 odd grand at a car, it wouldn't be the R32 I was buying.... a couple of others agreed, and then Sutherland chucks all his toys out of the pram.

He should stay away from here, if he dosen't like critisicm. After all, it is a forum, where issues are supposed to be discussed. What should we do? Just agree with him that the R32 (co-incidently his car) is the best thing since sliced bread? Get real mate.

My point is that most of you just snipe at cars (my mk3 was a real victim) but don't say anything positive.
"I wouldn't buy an R32" - Well done for your opinion but only one of you said what they would go for.
I write on here because I'm a VW enthusiast. So many of you would rather slate VW and praise FORDS, NISSANS, and other makes. I don't understand that at all.
Had two very intersting replies from EVO (the journo must stay up late which have slightly restored my faith in the mag.
    Off to work.

At the end of the day, most motoring journalists rate a cars "handling" by how easy it is to get the back end out and slide it about..........which as we all know is NOT the quickest way to drive, whether it's fun or not, it's not a real world driving technique.

It annoys me to f8ck when all they do is blat them round a deserted airfield and just try and driftt hem the whole time.

That said, I think the R32 looks silly. it's too dumpty and it looks like a teenager designed it.

I wouldn't buy one. Well, not until they are about 4000 I won't!

Never driven one so I have no idea if they are any good. But if I did, I certainly would instantly take it to it's limits and try and get the rear tyres smoking.

Calm down dear, its just a commercial! Don't take it so personally mate. It wasn't your Mk3 that was slated, it was the Mk3 in general (backed up by most of the motoring press) but only when compared to the MK2. Compare it to an Escort Mk5 GTI [xx(] and there is no comparison. Its just that with the R32 the competition have caught up and in some cases bettered the old recipe. On here the Mk1 and Mk2 (undeniably definitive hot hatch icons) will always be the benchmark so you have to expect some opinionated comments.

If it means that a car being slated makes everybody jealous then my white 5 door must be the UK's most wanted!! Form an orderly queue please people, bidding starts at a nice round 5K

    I couldn't agree more
Matt - you ned to calm down and stop taking it personally everytime somthing is said against an R32.
Assuming that the reason people wouldn't buy an R32 is because they cannot afford it actually makes you look like the t**ser.
IIRC didn't you get one as a result of being handed a business ?
Not really earned is it ?

    Try this...

    I've had a MK2 8v, 2 VR6s and 2 4motions
    Would I buy an R32 ?
    No
    Reason 1 - I live in London (it wouldn't last 5 mins)
Reason 2 - I need something more economical & with more space

    What will I get ?
    BMW330d sport

    Cost ?
More than the most fully loaded R32

So, although I think the R32 is great, a 4 door saloon suits me more.

Does that make me jealous that I cannot afford the R32 ?
    I don't think so

    Fair commments.
My original point (which I lost completely in a fit of demented rage) was the INCONSISTENCY of the mag.
I'm not actually all that worried if someone doesn't like the car - We all have our own opinions.
But to rate the car very highly indeed (it beat all the competition in a giant EVO test including Focus RS, Subaru WRX, Alfa 147GTA, Leon Cupra R, etc) then give it a pasting seems rather misleading to us poor ar nuts who lap up every write up on our choice of car. Apart from the slightly notchy gearchange I think the car is perfect (for me). Don't like saloons, 350Z was a great drive (although notchy gearchange and rattly dash) but no back seats, RX8 is too odd, and didn't wanted FWD,etc, etc.
The "can't afford" it thing was admittedly rant from a man (or boy?) seeing red and has no relevance to my "argument".
Must go and take my pills...

I'd love a R32......if I had one on a company car list it would definitely be in the shortlist along with a Leon Cupra R.
If I was buying with my own cash and had 23k to spend, not too sure what I'd go for to be honest?...... [:s]

I'd rather have the R32 running gear (woth the DSG box) in my corrado than in a tarted up mk4. and one day, I will.

    Evo's are near 28000 [:s]

Plus I dont class it in the same league as the R32. Its a thorough bred rally car for the road.

I love all the huge plastic wings and spoilers on Evos and hot Imprezas as well as the great design of the interior. Classy.
Massive range between fill ups is a bonus as is the free baseball cap you get with every car. ;) :p
