I going to make another statement and then rubbish it probably

I haven't checked  but I am assuming that the General Chat thread of the forum is many pages long.

If the main concern of the moderators is server capacity why not delete the eldest... say 40 topics.. to make room for 40 more topics?

    possible answers:

    1. The General Chat thread is regularly 'cleaned out'
    2. Thats a great idea Carbs
    3. The main concern is not server space

    additional questions:

1.a) What is the problem then?
    2.a) Thank you.
3.a) What is the main concern?

i suggested this a long time ago, as you so rightly say we dont' really need half the stuff keeping for time in the general section, but it is not easy to implement on this forum due technial issues i believe..

I'll dig up what was said about it.

i also think post count shouldn't include posts made in the general section.

this would stop the 'ive hit 5k posts!' type threads (that was in fact my own thread ) as these have no use in the forum, apart from people whoring it up to improve there count [:s].

and this will mean that the whores will try to actively contribute to the tech sections if they want there post counts to go higher, thus a high post count will mean the person who has contributed the most to the forum, not just the amount of pooe they post :)

The spamming would then likely just move to the technical forums and kill them as a decent resource. Would be easier just to turn post counts off IMO.

    who me?

nope - the ClubGTI forum is owned by ClubGTI. CGTI is run by the committee who are elected by the members.

The committee choose a webmaster who is then responsible for running the forum.

Since the webmaster is not a deity he can't do it all on his own so he delegates some of the responsibility for day to day (and week to week) running to some Admins.

The admins are responsible for the day to day running of the forum as a whole, that is we look after deleting old threads, adding or removing forum sections and the like. We also are the ones who move forum users to *read only* group, and suspend or ban where necessary. But since we can't do all that, and watch the whole forum at the same time we are blessed to have the mods.

Moderators - they are the guys who get the most abuse but make the most difference to keeping the forum running smoothly, they manage to keep an eye on every section of the forum to edit/move/delete threads and individual posts where required.

So for those who have an issue with *anything* on the forum, whether it's another user, a post, thread or one of the team you should get in touch with the next level up the chain, and if you are unhappy with the response keep going up a level.

Or if you have a concern with a more general element of the forum then you can go to the AGM and raise the concern there.

But if people just whinge on the forum, about the forum, i'm liable to delete the thread or post, as it's almost as dull to read as the 8v Vs 16v threads...

If people are basing their contribution to the club from the way general chat section is modified, then they really need to consider wether they are enthusiasts or not. The merits of the rest of the club and forum far outweigh half the spam that gets posted in here. Children.
