Converting wheel bolts to studs and nuts

Hi there, I am finding everywhere the thin shank type!!!

I found the omp ones online but at 30 for four ain't cheap at all...
I had the proper ones in the past on my Fiat Uno and my '81 GTI convertible, sold both cars and didn't bother to take them off!!! I got them from a friend back in Italy who was producing wheel spacers - now he has only long bolts! And moreover, got them for free with the wheel spacers instead of the long bolts!

Don't want to drill hubs, I may want to sell the car one day and keeping the studs - you know, they are not that easy to find!

Any hint for a screw on type that locks on the hub and not passes through, please?

yes, screw on type with the fat shank, in order to lock them on the hub and not wind them through...

I found some companies online that may have them, but unfortunately don't bother to reply.
Interestingly only sellers of studs with a thin shank reply. And explain me every time the prodigious results of Loctite compounds...

 

Who does M14 stud conversions - I may have to convert my car to 5 stud in the near future..

my S6 runs a stud conversion btw.. m14's, open bulge nuts (radius)

I'm lazy... MK2's are M12 right? bit what pitch and length do you think would be suitable?

M12 x 1.5.

60mm should be more than enough - you may end up cutting them down.

Have you guys seen these? Not sure on pricing but they look like really high quality. Hard to tell but i think they may even have the raised porting where it meets the hub...?

The studs in the picture do look high quality.

Browsing their site, the BMW ones with the allen head wind in facilty look like ones posted in the last couple of pages of this thread.

The chrome nuts to the top right of the pic in the post above look identical to the ones which are fairly universal, so it's not worth over-paying for those.

 

Hi Guys, i have spent the last while reading throught the pages to see what info i need, now i am confused.
I am building a mk3 16v racer and want studs as i have had issues with lose wheels before on track, not nice!!!
I like the idea of the press in from the rear studs, but where is good to get them?
And whats a good price?
I dont really like the idea of the screw in type, but i know they can be secured, its just another point of failure in my opinion.
If i can get something that cant pull through then i will use it.

You've got to make a choice!

I've done a bit of a sum up on page 10 of the obvious options avail, but there are more ideas that that.

ARP are press in, and you will find them in the UK, as are Techno2 ones, but Grayston do some more cost effective press in ones, albeit without the machined threads off the nose.

At the end of the day, they all do the same job. It's down to quality, aesthetics and price.

 

Thanks Chris, i think in terms of holding wheels on, quality and strength are the only options so its either Techno2 or ARP, i will be pressing in ney hubs anyway so thats not an issue really

Sorry to revive this one but is the pitch and diameter the same on mk2's and mk3's?

Both are 12 x 1.5 pitch.
