As far as I know, the steering column is the same for PAS & non-PAS, mine was originally non-PAS, then changed to Mk2 PAS rack & Mk2 PAS UJ.
I am now using Mk3 PAS rack & Mk3 UJ.

PAS rack should use a PAS UJ.

Is your PAS setup Mk2? Mk3? Something else?

nothing to do with the uj and how it attached, it just doesnt fit on a pas rack properly -> potential mot fail.

the uj is different length thats the problem ;)

Take the intake manifold off, or just the intake duct and that should help you access the UJ.
With the bolt off, you should be able to lever the UJ upwards off the rack

found the pas uj, greater length than the non pas uj?

    i think i have a mk2 non pas and a mk3 pas uj

the teeth on the end are different? MK2 has more than mk3?

ok these uj's are not making sense..

ive brought another pas UJ for a mk2 golf. but it still wont fit..the spline on the rack end wont fit over it..

different spline set up and different diameter aswell?
ill post some pics up..the one got now is exactly the same as the one that came with the converison.

ill post some pics..iirc was there two different PAS ujs for the mk2 golf?

pas uj for mk2 is 192419951B, im not 100% sure if the pas uj is the long or short one, but i do know its different length to manual. so you probably a manual and pas uj there. LHD is different to RHD too by the way!

edit: and ignore the different spline comment i made earlier for mk2, thats only on manual racks. pas mk2 racks same spline regardless of year. the MK3 pqas rack does have 2 splines though, i think the early one is mk2, later one is different. the corrado early racks are mk2 spline, later are mk3 so i dont see why mk3 would differ in this respect

lol ermm...if your sure the mk2 pas is the same for all..it must be a pas rack of a mk3? in which case id just use the mk3 uj..the one which splits into two bits?

yup if its a mk3 rack you would need a mk3 uj, later one assuming early is same as mk2!
