    Holy thread resurrection batman!
Started getting the mk1 ready for its annual croft sprint easter Monday.
Checked valve clearances, one tight , one marginal.
Checked valve timing and couldn't believe what I found. Exhaust lift on overlap is miles too big!
I take ages setting this up on the engine stand, so not a Scooby doo how I have made a mistake, but its the only feasible explanation.
The inlet cam is driven off the exhaust cam, via the chain, and its lift is spot on...............
    So nothing can have moved.
Oh well, whole lot in bits, cams out, manyana
Lash caps can have a few thou tickle to sort the clearances.
And it had to come to bits anyway as the stupid mushroom headed M4's rounded on the inter cam pulley, probably due to too much loctite
With the correct valve timing it may even make 200hp....
Anyway, morale of all this is try not to work alone. When you set something like this, get a third party to verify your settings/measurements....
    Jon
If I had got the inlet cam ting wrong mr piston might have said hello to mr valve.....

No excuses, the lad who beat me found a better line round the track. And......in a Vauxhall!
    Revenge cometh hopefully.....,
For some reason I cannot find any photographic images on line??? Maybe everybody uses facebook now???
