Heads back!! Ported and polished and tested on the flow bench, its lovely and clean ready for the slow job of rebuilding it. I think i'll do it in front of the TV tomorrow night. Ferrea valves, springs and retainers. Its got a +1 mm valves too. I have another head to build up for my other racer soon too. That getting the works, with solid lifters and and cams. I have all the parts but have been putting it off but i suppose as I've got all the kit out for doing one i may as well do both.
I love MK1's! The Caddy is the only MK1 I've owned however. At least when I sit in it, I fell like the proud owner of a Golf 1 :-)
Nick.. (I'm no engineer) Has anyone ever done a bolt on front end to the MK1? I was thinking to ease rebuilds / crash repairs etc? After doing my first engine swap (AAZ TD lump into my Caddy) a bolt off front end would be easier
So today i tackled the front air dam, splitter and radiator. It took all day but think i've broken the back of it. Got a new carbon kevlar air dam to go with the new group 2 arches. Had to re shape the existing splitter as regulations have changed for 2012 and its now to large. Once it was all in position and test fitted to the car i could start measuring up. Plastic welder came out or retirement, been ages since i've used it, welded on so air fins and supports for the rad. Then made up some brackets for some mesh to stop stones. Lots of fiddly fabrication and took forever! Carbon end caps are used to secure the rad in place. And tonight job.....
Nice to see the kitchen being used for it's correct purpose. (even though the chickens on the wallpaper threw me for a bit)
Oh it gets so much worse!!!!! Its painted on the back wall of the B&B breakfast room! We all hate it and keep threatening to paint over it.
Hubs are back from the engineers finally! New caliper brackets made up and hubs converted to 5x100. I'll fit them tomorrow morning and see how the new wheels measure up in the new group 2 arches.
It's all looking good Nick, reckon your going to need eye ball restraints with 9j rims, slicks and those brakes I was chuckling [sobbing] to myself as I contemplated cutting another bit of old lawnmower up for my car while reading through your thread and all your carbonfibre and AP bits going on yours
