Don't be soft burn some midnight oil & get it in you poof ;) I'm gunna have mine in, despite the fact that right after it will all be ripped out & re-installed in not quite such a lash up lizard way

Got to test those new slicks out on the road yet, tad wider as you know & thus worried worried about arch contact on front- looks v tight, so if dry will try & do a few road miles- hiding from the fuzz as on slicks & on SORN & no insurance might not go down too well 'eh

    Gary,

The SD cage main hoop doesn't fit to the floorpan, it sits on the platform the rear seat sits on. Theres a triangle area left where the seat platform curves round and the hoop sits there. There is a plate supplied that you weld to that point and bolt the cage down.

Hmmm.... got me thinking.. time for a cage in the MK4...

Hi Scott, not seen you for a while :p

I did realise the main hoop on the SD mk2 cage fits on the rear seat platform, unlike the italian cages which just seem to fit ....anywhere....

I was reffering to the front legs of the front cage where it fits to the front foot well.:)

2 young kids and a house to modernise have been keeping me very busy!

In which case a spreader plate is a good idea but not essential.

BTW... my old golf is now running a 16v G60 motor, and is still green.

Collected my cage from SD's 'storage facility' somewhere near Ely ;) this afternoon, borrowed works van,met up with the guy from SD at a services nr Ely and followed in convoy with a guy from 'west wales rally spares' with his sprinter and trailer, picked up my cage and he picked up 'a few'[:|]:o for stock..

Spotted an Evo 3/4? rally shell in their 'storage facility' with welded in cage on a trolley..

    Fitting next weekend

the hoop HAS to sit on the sill.seat platform. there is ZERO strength in the floorpan to mount it to that.

same at the front, the door bar should land on the sill, not the floor.

keep you're eyes open in my corrado gallery. mines going for a cage in the next couple of weeks.

And a picture just for old time's sake,

And FWIW if you have a five door and want to use the rear seats a cage isn't that practical, quite funny watching people clamber in!

PHAT - A bars from SD cage go to the floor, it's why a spreader plate that bends up the sill would be a good plan.

Ask some people won't even quote, you have to shop about. Never had trouble getting insured through Brentacre though.

Wish I hadn't sold it... but kids arrived had no time to spend on it. Still miss it, although it's now green at least I know it is still getting used.

Mk4 now has a good suspension setup, black wheels.. just needs Sparco's, a cage and big brakes now.. ;)

I had a dabble with a mk4 aswell, luckily I managed to get my G40 back after seling it though. Wouldn't mind another Mk4 at some point.

I thought I'd remove some of the packaging from the cage at lunch time, they've shrink wrapped it, bubble wrapped it, card round the feet and parcel tape on top, after an hour I still hadn't got it all off (leaving the shrink wrap on while fitting it to stop it getting scratched) sliced my finger in the process with a stanley blade [8(]

After work started stripping out the interior ready for fitting the cage at weekend, might see how noisy it is with the undercarpet sound proofing left out, weighs a bit! ;)
