High quality equipment and some one who knows how to use it is all you need from a machine shop (and high quality can be 50 years old)
The other chap you could try is Andy Larton - LAD Engines in Morecombe - know him well through racing and he does build a good engine
Mr hillclimb has recomended Gosnay's of Romford for rebuild work says they're top class  How quick does a block rust beautiful on Friday rust patches all over now going to power wash it now and hoping paint arrives later will post pictures lol and smilies
Just power washed the block and now drying it with a 30 kw space heater won't take long then degrees apply rust cure / primer I'll ad more pictures later as I do the stages of work
Got to and get some more paint for they out side but this is the inside painted with glyptal paint Pictures removed because I'm embarrasded will put back up later when it looks better lol You can use this paint for gaskets when wet and all sorts of stuff . It's bonded very well to the cast faces but you can scrap it off the machined faces with a razor blade I'll keep a close eye on my oil and pressures once it's all running and pop the sump off now and again to check the pick up for any particles of paint .
Sorry if you take this the wrong way; Paint inside an engine? NO!!!! Over paint on engineered surfaces. Clean it off. So its virgin. Again, as ever, IMHO Jon
Mike, don`t paint where the oil pump mounts to the block. You want that a machined face to machined face. Same with the sump gasket face. I`m with Jon on this, I wouldn`t paint the inside of an engine. If ANY flakes off, it`ll block your oil pickup and you could destroy the engine in seconds. I just don`t see the benefit AT ALL.
As mentioned take the paint off the machined surfaces.. Main cap areas, and oil pump.. And especially bearing faces.. Thats ESSENTIAL.. Painting the inside of the engine is ok, provided prep is 100%. Plenty of people and reputable builders do this... I have done this before on previous race engines of my own. Not really required for this level of build, but will do no harm if done preoperly.
I`ve seen it done myself, but it was the blanket coverage, including all the machined faces that particularly concerned me.
Yes. I have to don my forum friendly here to help, and point you in the right direction hat. When all I really want to say is: Oh. my. God. - How did you get this so wrong.
So this is why I've done it . Yes I was a bit slap happy but as I've said it comes off machined surfaces with a razor blade . Read up on the paint and seems to agree with Rob so I went for it . Been off line busy so couldn't defend my actions and poor painting skills it'll look a lot better in Monday's pictures
I understand that, but it`s how you painted over the entire oil pump mating face and oil squirter face that worries me. If it was a bit of overlap from the areas you DID want to paint, I`d understand a little, but you obviously meant to paint those. Anyway, good luck scraping it all off
I don't mind constructive criticism lol Has Robt punked me Glad to make you guys laugh but it's supposed to work and I do mind giving it a try . Nige don't worry it'll be right on the night Eddie thanks for the picture it shows you realy care ,
