Awesome, Andi is a great fabricator, he has a bmw rear end fitted up to his so essentially just needs to choose his engine setup now!
Well she's finally been mapped! Only pushed it to roughly 1 bar of boost, making 287bhp @ flywheel and 249bhp @ wheels Havn't driven it yet other than loading onto the trailer but even at low boost she will be fruity!
Hopefully going to thoroughly test drive it this weekend if good old scottish weather plays ball... Need to sort my wide arch dilemma too!
Have a look at Phil Morrisons E30 M3 for some inspo. He's been developing some new arches for his, whilst keeping it looking fairly oem. He runs semi slicks on a really wide wheel and wants the car low, whilst still being functional. May give you some food for thought
Wow! What a read, hats off to you mate you have done an incredible job, I'm keeping my eye on this one
Right, time to shift up a gear on this build, if I want to be driving it in summer I'm going to really need to pull the finger out. Not much done as of late other than moving it in and out the shed to work on other stuff... daily mk2 Rocco needed some work for its MOT but its now passed and taxed, insured etc - 13000 miles last year! I've somehow bought myself a 200 quid T4 van to restore and went halves with dad on a Mk1 TT quattro to fix and flip, more financial disasters! Anyway, what's left to do on the RWD Rocco... I need to fabricate arches, played around with plastic ebay crap but it just doesn't look right and doesn't do the car any justice. Decided to do it once and do it right, make some out of steel. This is the final big job before the car can be stripped down, painted and rebuilt. I'm thinking to tack some TIG filler rod to build up wireframes where i can use cardboard to fill and visualise the look. Once thats nailed i'll replace the carboard for steel, do it bit by bit and see how it goes, I don't have any fancy tooling or machinery to shape the steel so will be working with whatever i've got! Something a bit like this, I like this guys approach to it Here is the main inspiration however, I'm glad i found this picture as I'm totally sold on the look, a non bodykitted mk2 scirocco on 17's with widened steel arches Hopefully get started on this long process on Saturday. Updates to follow...
Thought I best pull the finger out and get started on the steelwork for the rear arches. kinda winging this, never done it before. Thought i’d try build them up in patches rather than one single panel and use the hammer and dolly to achieve an arch like shape. Its nae easy and takes ages, would be handy to have an english wheel or something, I'm just bending the metal off my knee and tacking it in! First rear tacked in and almost there, needs a lot more shaping, especially around the arch lip, but quite chuffed so far…
Little bit more shaping on the rear arch before I get started on the other side. Also tested suspension travel to ensure all clears, coilies are wound about halfway here, plenty of damper travel
