Still trying to get on with the golf, not a lot to show but progress is progress Stripped the paint off the tailgate.
Underside re sanded after removing old / first lot of stone chip undercoat. Repaired the dented chassis rail, never got it perfect but It's 10 times better.
Re seam sealed, a bit ocd. Painted inside the front chassis legs. Masked up underside and rekeyed for another coat of epoxy primer then straight on with raptor.
Tinted raptor liner applied. Looks different shades but It's just the light and camera. I went on a bit thick but spent most of my time rolling around on the floor getting tangled in airline.
Managed to get the back underside prepped up ready for another coat of epoxy primer ready for raptor.
Rubbed engine bay back down for a few more coats of paint, no runs this time so I'm pretty happy. I've also started filler/body prep, still a long way to go. Engine bay prepped and spot primed. More paint. De masked.
Just WOW. The attention to detail on this is superb, well done! Currently in the process of bare metalling, Epoxy Mastic and Raptor'ing mine and if it looks half as good as this I'll be dead happy! Keep the updates rolling
It's here but needs updating somewhat! https://clubgti.com/forums/index.php?threads/91-mk2-abf-digi-gti.201915/ Keep the updates coming mate
Starting to get there now, slow progress but progress. Painted inside rain tray, first more primer. Applied 3 coats of colour. This was a nightmare to get in with the gun. Prepped some parts ready for paint and reassembly. Parts painted in black gloss vht epoxy.
nice work! scuttle is one thing I'm not looking forward to. mine is going to have to come out as with a sneaky peek with a mirror i can see rust creeping along the seam up on the inside
Amazing attention to detail! Really good work. Whats your process for cleaning and removing the old underseal stuff and wax oil? Look forward to more updates
Thanks for your kind words. Petrol and lots of old rags plus heat gun will remove the wax oil. For the vw rubber undercoating I found it easier to use a scraper and wire wheels in a drill. As you can imagine this job is the worst and very messy, just a case of getting stuck in and trying to switch off from the job in hand. Good luck.
If the rust is just In the seam you should be able to open up the seam and sandblast the rust out. Depends how bad it is. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
trouble is its right up underneath. theres various spots of rot in the screen surround too so I'll be able to fix is all up at the same time. one day, once I get myself a garage big enough to do it. I keep telling myself that anyway
Before this golf I had a red mk2 driver, I did aload of welding to it but just got to the point when a better shell was needed. The rot around the scuttle travelled into the upper inner dash rail and was completely rotted out around bonnet hinges etc. Good luck with yours when you get round to it, do you have any pics on the forum of yours.
