Well had a busy day at AET Turbo's met Donaldspeedequipment from Holland who runs a MK1 TFSI in the Time attack series over there, interesting MK1 i'll find to videos of it runs Megasquirt 450BHP GT30 Turbo.

Dropped the Schrick sump off the MK1 when i got homes and re - fitted the windage track with some kermit spunk sealer. everything looks good.

brookster, did you get to the issue with the crank sensor pickup failing at 4k + rpm?

let me know if not i can give you a few pointers if you havent already tried them

I change to Distributor /Hall Sender & Single coil.

Waste Spark is something on the menu for the future, i got a new external trigger wheel designed specifically for the VW Crank pulley. But i'm not in a rush to change over.

did you find out why it failed though? i.e noise/interference, syncing issues, etc etc.

wasted spark is very good, never looked into MS but i presume you need to run an external signal amplifier, but from memory MS can only run batch/pair injectors, rather than sequential.

His ECU had a number of build issues from the original supply (who is now banned from purchasing genuine MS kits). In order to eliminate any further problems and to make it easy for Brookster to get on with his build, the ECU was repaired and converted to run on a single coil 4 window dizzy set-up. This was labelled and given to Rich to install, which he did.
The ECU is now fully capable of running wasted spark, however at this stage there will be no benefit.

thanks for the info must of missed that in the thread.

at least it was nothing he had done, so all good.

yeah no need to reinvent the wheel if no benefits at the moment, i.e by running much larger dwell time.

Stuff regarding MS controls starts from post 315 with the use of Microsquirt.

There may be small benefits when running a 4 pole coil pack over the single VW coil and TCI-h system particularly at higher engine speeds and loads. But these benefits can only be realised when the engine is proven to be calibrated properly.
I have built, supported and mapped various variations of these 16v Megasquirt ECUs, both 4 window dizzy and 60-2 triggered, single and mulitple coil pack. So far drive feel wise I cannot really tell the difference and if there is, a study would have to be undertaken to isolate the ignition system type as the reason.

    Update -

Had a busy Weekend been at York Drag strip run PB's every run - 13.81 @ 99.5 mph into a very strong headwind on Eagle F1 Tyres.

13.39 @ 106mph on BF Goodrich Track tyres all NASP runs .

not far off 12's i'm sure if it would have benn at Santa Pod i would have been in the 12's

The engine is running great still room for improvement.

    Bigger exhaust needed now.
