    Yep don't want any nasty rattles :thumbup: only going to run upto 8200 rpm when its all set up.

    Yes not much room for error there, when new Thrust washers are fitted and a nice fit :)

    Well here's today's mission

    Fit the 16v Head.

    ARP Head Studs all fitted using ARP Thread Lube

    1.9mm ABF Steel head gasket 83.5mm bore (1.5mm compressed)

    Allstage Head Flowed and Ported

    [​IMG]
    Cams lined TDC 11.2mm lift
    [​IMG]
    [​IMG]
    [​IMG]
    Piper Cam Pulley will be set at 3Deg Retard.

    New timing belt fitted
    [​IMG]
    Sachs HD pressure plate, Helix 4 Puk ceramic paddle and lightened Hotgolf Flywheel.

    Hopefully will be complete for June.

    Making progress now, just need to fit the new heat wrap to the exhaust that Nige gave me !
    Just the rocker gasket to fit , and then drop the Engine into the MK1 before fitting everything else.

    Could do with a new steel water pipe, the existing one is abit out of shape now, are these main dealer only ?

    Can't decide wether to fit the Poly side mount insert ! had them for ten years and can't make my mind up.

    Microsquirt ECU & Loom has been collected to.

    The wiring is straight forward now, 2 x 12v feed, 12v switch feed, - Ground, Rev counter feed, boot loader, Fuel pump feed.

    Cheers Nige tried phoning the other day to see if you want to have a go with the Microsquirt Mapping ! ready for when you build yours and also it will give you chance to copy the loom set - up :thumbup:

    Jenvey Throttle cable bracket fitted, but requires a spacer i think for a clear link to the Jenvey's when fitted.

    i got a new pipe from the dealers. didn't think it cost too much.

    builds looking good.

    what are those poly side mounts for?

    They are Poly inserts for both side engine mounts ! i never fitted them in the past as i was told they rattle your teeth out if you fit them :lol:

    doing a great job ther brookster,should be a serious valver when all mapped up. [:D] hope you don,t mind me askin but what is the touqe settings and tightening order for the arp head bolts , cheers paul

    dont fit the poly inserts ive made that mistake before they vibrate the engine unlessyou want your teeth to chatter when accellerating lol

    can you pm me some price for a dit nos kit or a link to the website

    What front and gearbox mounts were you using then - the standard type mounts, especially that front snubber are the main contributors to vibration

    80lb/ft when new stretch them 3 times by torquing up and back. :thumbup: 16v head is as per vw manual.

    Ben i've pm'd you the price :thumbup:

    don'd think i will fit the Poly side mounts, i have poly front and rear mounts already and they rattle your teeth out.

    The front mount also has two large plates welded on to strengthen the front panel. After the last front panel i had wasn't strong enough.

    Just looking at throttle cable options !

    Shall i use the existing cable that might not be long enough, i remeber from years ago everyone used the cable from 1300 carb MK1 due to its length.

    or shall i get a Weber one for Twin carb set - up ?
