IIRC I have an article at home from a few years back it featured a MKI 1.8 8 valve with K Jet. I seem to remember it having a mapable something [:s] it was a Lumenation (spelling ?) kit I remember they were setting it up with a lap top in one of the photo's I can dig it out if anyones interested.

Right just had a liitle look around  and I've got the article here now, its pretty vauge to be honest. I was mistaken it is an Emerald ECU (M3D?) however it is running on a 1.8 K-Jet MKI and is able to map injection and ignition I think it utilises digifant injectors, rather than try and explain it it would probably be easier for me to scan the article into my computer in work and host it on my photobucket account. Unfortuantely I am at home now so it will be tomorrow morning now [:^(]

Vince was saying a dedicated mappable ignition would help the tuned 16v's as to get good power out of them, you need a fair bit of advance, but as we all know, too much advance around 4k and they pink like hell [:x]

He was saying that you could put add some decent advance up to 4k, knock it back around 4k ( to stop the pinking), then whack it back up again to give you the top end power.

    LOL:lol:
Did I not mentioned that side effect? :p

It was a bizarre engine... dial in maximum advance possible and it would never pink. Mutant motor perhaps.
(ceramic coated this and that might have helped a bit tho :) )

Appologies for the dealy in sorting the article I'm having diffciulties scanning it in, I thought these were quite interesting, Ipicked them up of Vortex a while back IIRC they are of an early 16 valve oettinger, late ones used a normal VAG 16 valve engine as a base.

i joke about it, but my old RD200 2 stroke bike used to run backwards. sometimes.

was a bit odd, if you let the revs drop below 1k it would give a big shudder and then run backwards

was great when people borrowed it...

What a mammouth thread. Finally decided to catch up on it and read it all again.

Really sorry the cams didnt work for you Gary. Im sure youd have "put up" with the increased rev power band had it not been your daily car.

It should still make more power than before with the nice head on, so not all was lost. Hope you got your money back for the Schricks when you sold them.

Some other great references on here too.
