@rubjonny , top man as always. You're like Alexa, only vag based, Vaglexa. Fountain of knowledge, thank you. Went out earlier and came back via scrapyard only to find its permanently closed, so it's off to my usual ones in 2 weeks 250miles away. Just fitted the polo 9n3 mirror with self dip, and here's a pic of the console with the heated seat switches in, still not 100% but less obtrusive than in the dash.
Looking good there Dave Vaglexa is just wrong on so many levels……. Google version Vagoogle Or Apple, Vagiri
Parcel arrived today, several in fact . First up, 7 seatbelts freshly rewebbed, 5 for the white mk2 in gti style striped, And a pair of dark red for the mgf, reminiscent of the 80s metro, montego and maestro and will match the brm style steering wheel that mrs Dodgy got. These will get fitted in a couple of weeks when I get the roof for it. So spanners and 17mm socket came out to play and these went in, along with the new caps for front belts and able to reassemble the interior trim at last. 2 boots for steering rack to fit to the rack body and hopefully its mot time. Also picked up this, glue and some 4 way lining carpet to go with the gti tartan ready to retrim the door panels
Only 2 wires, but can wire it to reverse lights too so undips when select reverse. Got 2 mirrors from an a4 and a mk5 golf one around somewhere too. Thinking if there are any more bits to add for upgrade.
We have auto dim mirrors in our MX5 and CRV. It would be a pain to drive the MX5 without it because it’s so low.
Picked this up today, a new omp strut brace, but I've just encountered a different problem to @PhilRyder and his. Brake master cylinder and the bar want to inhabit the same area, with cap removed it will JUST fit, so I think will look for alternative reservoir. I'm running mk1 focus master with a mk3 golf fluid reservoir, to clear the engine and provide a supply for the hydro clutch. Any suggestions as to a replacement? Can fit a separate one for clutch obviously.
Possibly, but this was a bargain and 8 miles from home. Mk2 reservoir is same height, polo 9n is huge, I'll be armed with tape measure next weekend.
Made good use of the lighter evening, took the drivers door panel off my golf and ran the wire for electric window through, then thought "only 8 bolts" so fitted new regulator and motor and now have one electric window. Pleased, it cost about 50 for new regulators, a tenner for the polo switches and loom plugs and got a centre console for 50, so in total less than just the loom seems to be on auction sites, not too bad. While door card is off I've started preparing for the new materials, Old tweed cards from the green one, kindly let mrs Dodgy have the while interior from mine when I had sparco seats in. Stripped! Cracks in the usual places. Pva and tape to repair, Arm rest area was very soft, pva and tape on the outside, and 2mm mdf glued to the inside to strengthen it. And a circle of mdf to fill the redundant winder hole. Will let all the glue dry then give it a quick sand to level it all off and then start the retrim hopefully later in the week.
Big haul of stuff over weekend, first off got a roof for the mgf, plus other bits been after for a while. Then bits for the mk2, sun visor as broke mine refitting it with headlining swap. Rear drivers door, rust free, so painting imminent. Load of switches, lights, plugs, and other bits to stash and use on the project cars, thought would fit the red/white markers in door panels while covering them, hopefully
Down to one mk2 golf. The green 1.6cl that belongs to my wife has been sat for a while, working from home and too much other stuff going on, then a surprise phone call yesterday led to the sale today. It's going back to its previous owner so will still be local and loved, his son gave him a LOT of grief for selling it, and will get a shock when he turns up in it. No replacement planned, but I did see a 1988 rover 213 on Saturday, but no, too much other bits to do.
Damn, sorry to hear that you're letting the green CL go but sounds like it's going (back) to a good home and at least staying local. Also better for it to be driven / used rather than sitting about. Did you request first refusal to buy it back if the previous/new owner wants to move it on again?
True, but think the fella will be passing it to his son, when old enough, so won't get rid of it quickly, he had it for about ten years before we had it. Aye, to downsize the car collection and get on to the polo that's sat here awaiting brakes.
Little play this afternoon, first attempt, plus had a rethink as the lines proved impossible to get right in the elbow well, but....
