Couple of guys make them in Milton Keynes. Their business is making fibreglass kart seats but they have moulds for mk2 and mk3 golf bits and bobs. They have mk3 bonnets, front wings and doors that they mentioned to me also.
Fitted the new fibreglass bonnet today. Needed to install the aerocatchs prior to having it painted or wrapped... Haven't decided which I'm going to do yet. Firstly I fitted the pins in the cross member working our roughly where they would be on the bonnet to allow for any curves and tight spaces to avoid so the catches fitted in position and flat. Left the pins high so they could be used to mark where they will be on the bonnet. Little bit of paint on the tip of the pin worked nicely to contact the bonnet and allow me to see where the pin would come through. Once the pin was through bonnet the tricky part starts. The aerocatchs come with a really handy template so as long as you are accurate it works really well. The pictures talk for the rest.
carbon wrapped the bonnet today. Also fitted new pads and discs and acs racing studs and nuts, so much nicer fitting the wheels with studs rather than bolts!
Report from the Donington Park GP track day on Saturday, what a difference the engine mounts make to the car. turn in, braking, power delivery all much improved. Combine this with the weight saving from the bonnet the car handles much better. The morning was reasonably dry with an absolute wash out in the afternoon. luckily I made the most of the dry/damp conditions before the heavens opened but even in the wet the car handled great, Federal 595 RSR tyres were much better than my Toyo R1R tyres in the wet. Anyway, few pictures from the day and a video. Then this happened!!
Nice vid!!! Do you think the guy spun at 9minutes ish because you were getting close? You were passing cars for fun, some of them probably have similar power and are lighter as well.
Thanks mate, I think he was trying to stay in front but would have said he wasn't familiar with the car and that's probably why he lost it also. I'm going to try and upload another video tonight.
Good luck, hope the car is ready and goes well. I'll see closer to the time if I can make one of the days and if there is space
No problem, I did wonder to your garage but you were busy fixing the steering rack so didn't want to bother you.
Thanks for the 'how to' guide on bonnet pins. I've got a carbon bonnet from IZTech and it's sat here waiting to get fitted to my MK3 which hasn't turned a wheel in 12 months. Not that I do new years resolutions but this Golf is going to do a road rally and some track days in 2016.
Picture the scene,a good friend of mine has decided to enter the track car hobby club, not sure where he got the influence for that but his girlfriend is blaming me lol so he has bought a Mini Cooper s. He asked me if he bought it can we use my trailer to collect it,thinking he wouldn't go too far afield I said yes. Bought it he says.... It's on Doncaster! only 3 hours from where we live and 3 hours back!!! So anyway car collected he thought he needed to make it up to me and decided making me a custom gearstick would be a nice start.
