the list has become a lot shorter but with "converting" it to a track car its a few more things that need to be done :)

    need:
    - new exhaust system as most trackdays have a 90db limit.
    - rollcage
    - racing seats
    - tires

    want:
    - bigger brakes
    - a suspension more aimed at trackdays (it sits on a ta technix cheap set of coilovers now)
    - convert the megasquirt to run 60-2 trigger an 4 tfsi coils and boost control

Stock mk3 GTI, 5X100. Really i think Audi s2 calipers and a good set of pads will do the trick for a start.

Trying to figure out my shoppinglist for the winter:
    - Rollcage (got a quote on ca 300 for prefab cage and i weld myself)
    - Clutch (OEM VR6 is said to hold 400Nm, but for how long?)
    - Suspension (any tips for a afordable alternative?)
    - Gauges + electronics
    - Seats

Nothing says Racing like a holesaw ;)

    I fitted a Failsafe.

For the extra money I found having it wired in to the isolate the power to the N75 boost control valve made sense. When you are `on it` the last thing you are doing is checking your AFR. Having that safety net in place if you happen to have a fuel delivery issue which will cut boost automatically seemed like a great idea to me!

The datalogging is a small bonus if I`m honest, but handy.

If you loose your fuel delivery and you are at full chat, boost reduction alone will not stop melt down if your timing is already on the edge for maximum torque.
Robust fuel delivery system and a calibration biased to keeping components cool would be my personal tip.

I agree with Eddie in that you want a fundamentally good setup to start with. However I`ve tried turning off the boost control solenoid when at full chat and I certainly noticed the drop in performance. It would be enough to cause me to look at the AFR gauge immediately, see it flashing red (which it does) and back off. For the little extra it costs to get the Failsafe over the standard gauge, I still strongly recommend it.

Reducing boost, moves the look up tables to lower loads for the same given engine speed. If that is already on the edges of det and there is a lean out from a failed fuel delivery module, you can still melt the engine.
Does not take long in the combustion chamber conditions to get out of control.
Connecting another standalone device to perform such a feature is not a bad thing though. However usually that specific scenario can be avoided with a robust fuel delivery system.
After 2 years I need to buy a reliable AFR gauge myself. AEM it will be although the base unit will be fine.

My toughts was that i got boost and afr in one unit to save space, and not need to move my head that much to look at gauges.

Could the failsafe mode be used for triggering water/meth for "cooling" @ specific boost level?

E85 will most likely not be availble in Norway no more so i need something to control temps on pump gas anyway. (thank god i havent mapped it for E85 yet)

Megasquirt can be configured to run a bespoke 'Water Meth' map if configured to do so.

PeterG60 on here runs such a set up on his 20vT.

Yeah, I use it as a `combined` gauge too. AFR in the Centre, Boost on the outside.

All the failsafe does is trigger a relay. You can have that switching whatever you want, be that to cut a feed or energise another to supply water/meth

Well more options is better than less, if the quality on the product is the same ;)

Unlike Innovate products, the AEM product is pretty reliable IMO.

I have had 3 innovate lc1 kits, 2 doa and the last one lasted 30min of idle and a 10meter drive [emoji14] so No more innovate products for me.

Picking up a used rollcage saturday :)
Ca 50, used in "banger rally", main hoop is good but need to clean up the welds on the rest, and add some tubing for harness mounting.
My wallet is happy about this ;p
