looking on etka, they list a carrier support for big bumper models to get over the fact there's no front panel.

Just a shame it's now obsolete

look like it is the one andy on about

it look like it is just a strengthener for the front of the undertray
to stop it getting ripped off

a strip of aluminum would do the same

i think it just go's over the front of the under tray and not on to the bumper like i said

looking at the pics more closely in etka, the big bumper cars need the extender piece. The front holes in the extender piece bolts to the brackets on the crossmember, and the sound deadener fixes to the rear holes in the extender piece.
On the small bumper cars the deadener attaches direct to the valance, using self tappers either end. The middle 3 holes arnt used for anything except to clip the sound deader material to the plastic tray

ETOS recons so, but 3 bits of metal bracket would do exactly the same job. Just run em from holes on the tray to those 3 brackets on the front subby.

if you can make a short shift for a cable shifter, front brackets for the tray no big deal ;)

alternatively, SEAT Toledo one as piccied earlier in the thread would do zee trick, easier to fint too i'll bet.

SEAT list a few things on the toledo, there's a 'shield for transmission' 1L0 805 867 quite cheap at 26+VAT. Looks to be litterally a front trim bit between bumper and front of engine block. more news to follow as it comes in

edit3:  success! its under 'cover - v-belt':
    1L0 825 235 - 87.05+VAT
    1L0 825 235 A - 1Z - 79.82+VAT

edit4: bugger its on page 2 anyway, doh. Oh well, the 1Z item is a bit cheaper, cant be that much different either. 1Z has an 02a gearbox, perhaps thats what the difference is. Better for you PB?

Do you reckon there's any performance benefit to fitting these? Smoother airflow under the car at high speeds?

Scrapyard is the way forward I'd have thought.

and whats the access like for the sump drain? I'm guessing the tray would have to come off to drop the oil right?

There's 3 or 4 fixings along the rear edge, that bolt/screw onto, erm, a bit of metal that runs side-to-side across the back of the bay there (subframe?). Haven't got to that yet, but it looks like it will be easy once the car's lifted a little. Holds in place fine without, for now. [smilie for the artful bodger]

Screws at front are the same as hold on the original belt splashguard, I should think. On this there are two of the 'clip-on captive nuts', just visible on the LHS of my first pic.; these would probably work in the same way for the front/rear fixings of the undertray. Maybe even more professional than tyraps?

Sump plug is still accessible through the big hole.
