I'm putting some of the trim back in, not leaving it fully stripped Stu. I was going to put carbon sheet in place of door and 1/4 panels...... until I priced it up

I'd been trawling the net for info on cage fitting but never found much, so hopefully this will be a big help for others doing the job.

    Here you go:

Each mounting foot of the front, main and lateral rollbars must include a reinforcement plate of a material of at least the same thickness as the wall of the tube to which it is being welded (minimum 3mm). Each mounting foot must be attached by at least three bolts, minimum M8 150 grade 8.8, on a steel reinforcement plate at least 3mm thick and of at least 120cm2 area which is welded to the body shell (see drawings). The mounting feet may alternatively be welded direct to the reinforcement plate. This does not apply to backstays.

Nice work - shall have a look at it in the flesh in due course.

Worth painting any disturbed underseal on the underside of the car if not already done, as it will rust up a treat. Etch primer & then underseal.

I think this tends to be fairly noisy panelling - worth considering.

Chris, I lathered a load of waxoil around the underseal that had been burnt through welding, should be OK. :)

only just caught this thread, could have answered a few questions along the way, but you sorted it all anyway and it looks great :) how you liking the car now?

do mk2's have metal sunrooves? was just wondering, you got a cage to fit round the factory sunroof, yet was concerned about motorsport aproval of the base plates. sunroof itself wont pass scrutineering even at club motorsport level.
