Well if I'm not mistaken, that's Will Gollop's old 309 Rallycross shell from the ? 1993 ? season.

A car not seen in a long time....

hasent been out of a barn since end of 93 season once it was stripped for its mechanicals. Now being made into a low and wide trackcar with a 250bhp honda s2000 engine and RWD

Should be a giggle once built [:D]

Wow, interesting to see that reappear! Was it at G-Tech or elsewhere all this time?

Yep, if I recall, the whole mechanicals went into the 306 car.

The cage looks really comprehensive, possibly over-heavy? Although it's spaceframed, would you be tempted to remove the middle door bar and possibly other tubes?

Heh Not sure that you can have too much cage..

the additional bracing on the rear is to provide mounting points for the S2000 rear subframe. as the car is mostly composite panels (including the doors) it needs to be very extensive. I think all of it will stay with the addition of a small amount more for the front subframe pickups

Final weight of the car will be in the very worst car about 850ish kgs.. which in the big scheme of things isn't that heavy.. I do think it will be lighter though. If not the angle grinder and hole cutters are coming out!

Bare shell like this .. it was under 200kgs

As an aside.. you'll notice that the track width for the rear of the S2000 fits perfectly within the arches of the 309.. and I mean mm perfect [:D] Was meant to be

The full history I'm not sure of. I understand it was just a test bed for the 306 engine / drivetrain. Got used for a single season and then ditched. Will didn't like it much.
Most thought it was crushed but was hiding in a barn in cornwall

Yep, should be going again for the Techno Classica at the end of March.

Plan is take a mk2 golf out, call at the ring abandon my car until easter 5 days later then fly back.

I can get to Leeds/Bradford for about 30 each way!

Still fairly light then - the panels must be sooo light. 850kgs - nice :)

The tale on the car is (roughly) that Gollop retired his turbo'd 6R4, end 1992 (some regulation changes if I recall), then got a relationship running with Peugeot, used the 309 for a year whilst he waited for the 306 to come on stream, as testbed as you say

End of year he then whipped the lot over to the 306. 309 was never seen again, and the Silkolene stickers support the theory it's never been used since. Incredible! Maybe it was sold out of a side door at G-Tech ;)

The 306 meanwhile is alive and well over 10 years later, having been in Ireland in recent years, and seen on outings on the BRX & Irish RX scene.

[:$] Just been around a while!

I also had a conversation with Gollop once whilst he was testing his 306 at Croft, so there's a bit of direct info there.

Vertical tubes in engine bay I think are the ones Ian C referred to about saving the wheel coming through the wheel arch on the previous page.

(full build pics of that car are now over on VWMotorsport.com's 'catalogue' page btw)

I think that was the same car that rolled twice, ken rolled it at Oulton in race two, then rebuilt it....then sold it to Lee Wharton who made a proper job of it at Thruxton and killed it properly....I have some incar footage of that from Len Simpsons Vento which was also badly damaged....when I came round there was bits of smoking shrapnel all over the track...scarey shunt, I remember following a corrado wheel all the way doen to the next corner!:o

Chris, mine didn't have those verticle beams, it was the one running inside the car from the front mounting leg through the bulkhead to the suspension turret that saved the wheel coming throught the rear face of the wheel arch, the spot welded join between the floorpan and the wheelarch had completely split.
