why not use the original fuel pump, if you use anyway a pressure regulator?
and what pressure does a carb need?

Because you can't really knock the pressure down that much.

Bike carbs need about 3psi, K-Jet pump puts out something like 5 bar...

but if you set the pressure regulator to 3psi, you can let the pump supply whatever pressure, can't you?

Knocking the pressure down 70psi probably isn't the best idea...

It's another question I asked when I was looking to do it and it was advised it could be dangerous.

when using a bike pump to fuel the carbs do you have to match the fuel pumps to the carbs or do all pumps use the same pressure?

i'm using a yamaha R1 pump with kawasaki carbs with no problems. as long as your getting 3psi fuel pressure everything will be fine.

dyno shows no change over a standard k-jet dynoed at stealth [:D]...that would get 35mpg

however I'm sure there's loads left to come with proper tuning

With a 1.6 carb if I want to convert to bike carbs is a pressure regulator enough to lower the pressure?

If I get a bike pump is there anything else that needs to go with it like a specific relay or is it just plug and play in place of the original pump?

    ;)

Still only set up by guesswork :)

As for bike pumps, any old pump will do, you can pick one up for about 5 off eBay and then you don't need a reg

that looks like an in-tank pump? might be wrong?? the R1 is an external type with built in filter and pressure regulator

that one looks external. usauly can tell by the lenghts of pipes running to/from the pump. the last one had none, there is also normaly a lenght of wire with a plug on were as in tank pumps have a plug directly on the body somewhere, i'l have a look on egay and see whats about:thumbup:

    found this one....

not sure if its got the built in pressure regulator or not, a bit of digging would soon tell you tho

You want a pump that looks like the one gunit posted, afaik they're all about the same.

And yes they do ice, alot! Which is why alot of bike carbs have engine coolant running through them :) (I binned all that on mine though)

r1 is the best option i think, works a treat for me, just removed all the old fuel pump and accumulator blocked off the return pipe to the tank as its not deeded then put mine in place of the original pump and used the existin wires to! (was an 8v gti)

just out of curiosity, is going from a dodgy Pierberg to hopefully fairly good condition bike carb going to see much of an increase in fuel consumption or no not really?

The thought of $10 getting you about 14 miles scares the **** out of me, considering I regularly travel like this:

currently looking into doing this with my 1.3cl polo! will my lift pump off the cam be sufficient? i have a set of carbs which i think are keihin cvk ones, this is stamped on the side, i was told they are gravity fed carbs and should be okay with the mechanical fuel pump, but any ideas? (any tips on locating origin of carbs - as in which bike they came from?) also what jet size would you recommend? yours is a 2.0 and mine being a measley 1.3!!

this is a great thread and something i have been searching for.

    many thanks in advance

    Rick
